A Chevrolet car stolen in: Auckland last Saturday was discovered by SeniorSergeant Quinn at Rotorua, yesterday, and the. driver, Peter Andrew Jensen, was arrested and charged, being remanded' to Auckland. Accused had taken /three young men with him from Auckland, giving the impression that his employer had lent him the ear for Christmas. * SUIU< ACCIDENT. DUNEDIN, Dec. 28. R. A. iVlatthewson, a sharebroker, of Dunedin, was drownedwhile surf bathing at Warrington this morning. ' GIG CAPSIZES. ; . DUNEDIN, Dec. 28. Advice has been received from Naseby that two men named W. Hoare (a farmer) and Joseph Allan, aged 71, were returning from Waipiata sports on Friday, when the gig capsized in the Kyeburn river. Hoare hung on to the reins, and was dragged to safety, but Allan was drowned. The body has not yet been recovered. , ' ACCIDENT ON RAILWAY LINE. PALMERSTON N., Dec. 28. The body of an elderly man, whichwas found lying on the railway line near Khandallah early on (Saturday morning, has been identified as' that of James Sheerin, late of 19, Clifton Street, Palmerston North. He leaves a -widow and a large grown up family. DROWNING FATALITY. WELLINGTON, Dec. 28. Inquiries as to the identity of the man who threw himself overboard on the Ngakuta point to him being Parry, an elderly watchman on the steamer Takapuna, which is now being dismantled.
