RIFLE SHOOTING.
WANGANUI MEETING. SUCCESS OF TARANAKI MEN. BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS. (by TELEGRAPH—PRESS' ASSOCIATION. WANGANUI, Dec. 28. The annual rifle shooting meeting of the Wanganui and West Coast Rifle Association was commenced on Saturday morning on the Putiki rifle range. The weather in the early part of the morning was favourable, but heavy rain fell frequently during the day, making a postponement necessary. The entries total 121, a.nd include Captain Simmonds, of Wanganui, last year’s New Zealand North Island champion, Messrs Masefield, Ballinger and D. Roots (ex-champions), W. H. Webb (New Zealand representative at Bisley) and IJ. 11. Hunt (ex-No.rth Island champion). The Wanganui match (300 and 500 yards) was completed with the following result:— A GRADE. Rifleman F. J. Soler (Wanganui, £5, 67 1 Rifleman W. J. Green (Okawaj, £4, 67 2 Rifleman W. A. Kenning (Nelson), £3. 66 . ... j Captain IT. Simmonds (Wanganui), £2, 66 4 Among those who took £1 prizes were Riflenmn C. H. Taylor (New Plymouth), Pres. Coxhead (Tahora), Rifleman A. H. Jones (Hawera), J. G. Ritchie (New Plymouth).
