- . ■ DIPPING SMALL FLOCKS. A CHEAP AND HANDY DIP. There are many dairyman who have only a limited number of sheep; and do not care to go to the expense of constructing: a ( Permanent dip. In such cases, perhaps, t,he simplest plan to adopt is to purchase a portable iron one, such as that illustrated, which can be sunk in the ground at the most con*, venient position for working and will suffice for, any 'number of sheep up to 500. When the dipping has been done it can be lifted out, cleaned, dried, and used as a chaff or grain bin. With care it will last for years. These dipping baths are made of strohg galva'nised iron, rivetted .to iron angle binding. The usual size is 9 feet long. The best way to lit the bath is to dig a hole about 3ft. 6in. to 4ft. arid pack earth tightly round it to prevent bulging out. To keep dirt from'‘getting into the dip it is advisable to make a batten floor to the forcing pen, and at the exit make a pen that will hold, say, 40 sheep, divided'in the centre so that one lot is drying while the other is coming in. This draining yard should have posts 6ft. out of the ground, with a floor about 2ft. above the soil. The floor should be made of Stout corrugated iron having a slight dip to a gutter in' the centre, which will carry the drippings from the dipped sheep back into the bath. The posts used will also make a fence around the pen. The dipped sheep wherever practicable should be put under;cover to,dry. Previous to being dipped they should be camped for some time, so that they will drop their excreta before going into the; dip. t
