SYDNEY, Dec. 24. The fierce southerly,“buster”.which swept over Sydney did considerable damage to property in many;.suburbs. In several cases roofs were lifted into the £ir and carried a considerable distance, trees uprooted, and big windows blown out. Prom almost a perfect calm the velocity, of the wind, rose to about forty miles an hour, and' as the full force of the gale was experienced squalls registered up to fifty, miles an hour. Several people were more or less seriously injured by falling roofs and debris. Many, narrow escapes are reported. The harbour ferry services were disorganised, and small vessels, were unable to leave/port. The telegraph lines were seriously affected, and services with Melbourne and Adelaide were eight to ten hours behind. ’
