FOR NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE. ADVERTISING THE DOMINION. Cut telegraph—press association. AUCKLAND, Dee. 22. The value of a distinguishing mark for Neiv- Zealand produce’for exportwas stressed at a.meeting of the executive of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Tourist League yesterday. It-was-resolved that the Department of Agriculture, be asked to give : as much publicity- as possible to the desirability- of branding -all New Zealand exports with -a mark that would be Characteristic of the country, so taking advantage- of ;r -''valuable means' of advertising the Dominion. It was suggested fthat a national' competition for a suitable mark might be arranged. The feeling of .the • committee Was that the map of New- Zealand would- be a suit' able and convenient brand. '• : As illustrating the need for a distinguishing standardised trade mark 'for the" Dominion’s produce a member of tlie .committee said that, when he was in Londbli'on one occasion he went to a store to purchase some- New Zealand butter, and:' despite tlie: fact that New Zealand butter was 011 tlie . counter he was, told there was-none in sock. When he pointed out the butter on the counter,; the said; “That is not New Zealand butter,; it is. Colonial butter! ” :: -. In connection with advertising the Dominipn, particularly fj;om 'a: tourist point of view; the committee passed a resolution to the effect-that the Government be urged to 'obtaiii a more jprominent site in Sydney for the 1 Tourist Bureau, with space for window display, which,- even though small, would be of immense : value in- bringing the attract tions and resources of tlie Dominion before the notice' of. Australians.'
