Discussing the .edse*'- with which habitual criminals earn money, some of whom upon--I’elease -having drawn-'as much as £450, the Attorney-General said that -under the Act it- was -provided that habitual criminals should be required to work at some trade, and ;he products of their labour was sold', the prisoners to receive riot less than, one naif of the net proceeds of the sale. It had been long recognised by the 1 Department, he said, : that this scale of payment was too high, aiid power had been taken recently to’ alter the s position. The amount would, in future, be determined by the regulations, which would shortly be promulgated. ,
