THE SMYRNA FIRES.

IMPORTANT JUDGMENT.

“AN ACT OF WAR-.” BY CABIiE—PRESS ASSOC!ATTON—COPYRIGHT - LONDON, Dec, 19. After a hearing last twelve days, Mr Justice Rowlett, in the Commercial Court, gave judgment for the defendant insurance companies in the Smyrna fire case, thereby holding that the fire was an act of war and excluded from the insurance policies. The decision was a big blow to many British traders, ruined by the fire, for the action was treated as a test ease for claims amounting to nearly twenty millions sterling under insurance policies with British and other companies.
