Admiral Sir Roger Keyes has been appointed (Jo-mniander-m-Ohief in the Mediterranean, says a London cable. \dee-Admiral Sir Frederick Field succeeds Admiral Keyes as Deputy-Chief-of Staff. Our Manaia correspondent writes: It is indeed with deep regret that ■ I have to record the death Of Mrs. Burke, relict of the lat© John Burke, of Kakaramea, which took place at the residence of her son, Mr.' E. Burke, Otakeho, on Friday. The late Airs. Burke was a very old identity of Kakaramea, and was held in very high esteem by all who knew her. She was of a very kind and affectionate disposition, and also charitable, and would always assist in any sickness or distress. She was a very fond mother. The deepest sympathy is extended to her bereaved family in their sad loss. Messrs E. Burke, of Otakeho, and C. Burke, of Rama Road, Kaupokonui, are two of her sons. The funeral took place at Patea yesterday. Kaponga residents will be interested to learn that Charles Harding, an old bov of the Kaponga. public school, and now a. pupil at the Wesley College, Pnerata, Auckland, is achieving success in both the scholastic and athletic life of the college. He has obtained highest aggregate marks in the junior matriculation form, and at the school sports last'Wednesday he. annexed the athletic championship by a margin of two points, securing first place in the 440 yards; the mile, broad iump, a.nd high jump, and being seco'nd in* the 100 yards and the 220 yards. He was also awarded the medal for the most unproved Rugby ' forward during the season.- Charles, who. is the oldest son of Air and Airs P. H. V. Harding, of Kaponga. is now at home for the holiday vacation.
