(by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. CARTERTON, Dee. 20 The damage to the Kou varan electric works is greater than at first, anticipated, and it is likely now there will be no power or light for months. The machinery is silted over .to, a depth of seven leet, and an additional four feet of water was on top. The water has bene baled out, and a gang is now engaged shovelling the .silt. The pipe line and surge chamber are intact, but the dam is partially carried awav. The excavation behind the dam is filled up and requires re-excavating. The first cloudburst swamped the power-house with water, but this was overcome and. the generator dried out ready to start at 1.30 a.m. The second cloudburst over the dam let the whole of the storage water down in a rush, and then silted up the works. The estimated damage is from £7OO to £IO.OOO. Alen are now engaged in cleaving the powerhouse.
