Wash-outs occurred on the railway between Matamau and Makotuku, and the route is still unhegotiable this morning, and' it depends upon subsequent weather conditions as to whether the damage wil necessitate the erection of a bridge. This morning’s slow trains were cancelled, and passengers by north and south expresses have to tranship at the -wash-out, which will result in an unavoidable delay. The main road to Napier is closed owing to extensive damage to the bridge near Matamau, and other roads are also blocked, by slips as a. result of damage to culverts. The weather is still wet.
