MORE TROUBLE IN AUSTRALIA
SEAMEN LEAVE VESSELS

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPY RIGHT. (Received Dec. 20, 11.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 20. Waterside workers at Fremantle have broken the Melbourne agreement by refusing to work the steamer Clan Munroe. In this action they are defying the Melbourne headquarters of the union, but are acting under instructions of Tom Walsh,: president of the Brisbane conference between the shipowners’ representatives and the local branch of the Seamen’s Union, at which the points at issue w'ere discussed. Iu regard to the steamer Canberra, 'the union representatives stated that unless the demands in regard to deferred pay were met unconditionally they would not supply a crew. The shipowners said they would not agree to pay the claims, and the seamen asked to be allowed till this morning to consider the position, when they would give the owners a definite answer. Some members ,of the crews of the Bombala and Cooma have also given notice of intention to leave the vessels. In the meantime the necessary steps have been taken to pay off the crew’s if the seamen’s answ’er i« unfavourable.
