IN LIQUIDATION. (by telegraph—press association. DUNEDIN, Dec. 19. At a meeting of shareholders in the New Zealand Hardware Co. a resolution was confirmed to go into voluntary liquidation. This company, with branches at Invercargill and Timaru, is one of the oldest hardware enterprises in the Dominion. THEFT OF BICYCLES AND TOOLS. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 19. Thomas Glover, aged 18, pleaded guilty to the theft of bicycles, lamps, pumps, carpenter’s tools, ana antique fittings valued at £lO9 2s 6d at the Magistrate’s Court- this morning, and was convicted and ordered to be detained at the Borstal Institute for a period not exceeding 2 years. Glover, a week ago, was placed on probation for the theft of a bicycle. The police stated that he had a hut on the Cashmere Hills, where he dismantled the machines.

NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 19.
Martin was again remanded to Monday on charges of misappropriation of bank funds. It has bean ascertained that the alleged defalcations now total £1786. A CLERK SENTENCED. WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, a clerk named Thomas Dolan was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for failure to account for £lB 10s to Mamaku Fore»t», Ltd. IMEEHLOOLLEGE ROWING. CRRISTOHURCH, Dec. 19. In the inter-school fours rowing. Christ’s College beat Wanganui by two and a half lengths. These were the only competitors. PRISONERS SENTENCED. . AUCKLAND, Dec. 19. At the Supreme Court Harold Keith Jones, aged- 23, a clerk at the Bank of New Zealand, for forgery of a cheque of £450 was sentenced to two years’ reformative, treatment. Frederick Daniel Sands, aged 23. for unlawful knowledge of a girl 14 years and 4 months old, was sentenced to two years’ probation. DUNEDIN’S WAR MEMORIAL. DUNEDIN, Dee. 19. The tender of H. S. Bingham, a local firm, of £8420, has been accepted for the erection of a war memorial column in reinforced concrete faced with Italian Carrara marble. DEATH FROM INJURIES. PAHIATUA. Dec. 19. Mr J. J. Fra nee, postmaster at Eketahunn. died in hospital to-day from injuries sustained in a- motor-car accident, on the previous day. TWO COMMUNISTS. AUCKLAND. Dec. 19. At the Police Court two Communists Bourbon and Evan John Thomas, were charged with having sold the book “A.B.C. of Communism” to a police constable, a hook which encohrages violence and lawlessness. They were found guilty. Bourbon was sentenced to three months’ gaol and Thomas, who was nreviously fined £25, to, two months’ gaol.
