(Received Dec. 19, 11.55 'a.m.) BRISBANE, Dec. 19. When the steamer Canberra arrived 10 members of the crew who gave the requisite notice left the ship. Owing to a difficulty in filling the vacancies the departure of the vessel had to be postponed. Tfie trouble is a continuation of a dispute which delayed the vessel at Sydney. The secretary of the local branch of the Seamen’s Union sent a letter to the manager of the shipping company, stating that the men who left the vessel were dissatisfied at the non-payment of , claims made by them. If the claims were met unconditionally the men- would he quite prepared to return to the ship. The secretary added that other men will not fill the vacancies owing -to the above dispute. He considers the’ matter should he amicably settled at a conference.
