(I'rom Olir Oun Correspondent). MAGISTRATE’S COURT. The monthly sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held here on Wednesday last, Mr Barton, S.M., presiding. ..Rated County Council v. Tutengte; charged with failing to grub the gorse from the roadside contiguous tb liis property. This case was before the Court about three months ago, and it was explained that the defendant was very old, deaf and bedridden, hut oh a nephew undertaking to do the work the ease was adjourned. It. was explained by Mr Roberts for the plaintiffs that the work had no-w been com T pleted. A conviction was recorded and the defendant discharged. Judgment was given for plaintiffs in the following cases: R. A. Adams, Ltd., v. C. Adams, 33s 6d, costs only. C. P. Pulley v. National Motor Safety Devices and E. L. Goodwin, £2 lls, costs Only. H. Ainoh v. M. Sexton, £2 and costs 35s 6d.- Patea Harbour Board v. W. fe. Leech, £1 Is lid, and costs; same v. D. T. Smith, balance I bh fates, dd, arid posts 235., The cases Patea Borough tJourtcil v. A. M. Wills and C. A. Barcombe v. Tupito jvete adjourned till the February sit Lings. J. A. MeKtUiha v. J. Dennis,' claim £2 10s, balance due. for rent of dwelling. Plaintiff stated that the amount was due as balance of rent for house until recently occupied by the defendant. The rent agreed upon a,t the tinie defendant went into the house was £1 per week. Defendant, stated that he owed the money, but was defending the case With., a View to getting the.court to reduce the rent as.he considered it was too high. , The Bench pointed out to the defendant that it was useless asking the court to make a; reduction—he made a contract at, the time of taking the house, and he must, keep to, the terins of that contract. Judgment would be for the amount, claimed, with costs 365. Plaintiff agreed to accept payment at the rate of 5s per week. As this will be the last sitting, of the S;M. CoUrt, here this year* Mr Roberts, oil behalf'of the bar, wished His Worship the compliments of the season, and hoped he would have a jolly good holiday after the very gruelling year’s work now. nearing <a close. His Worship briefly thanked . the members of the bar tor their kind wishes, and he could, assure thein that he would be glad to have a holiday. He reciprocated the kind wishes expressed by Mr Roberts, and hoped they would all have a very good time. At the close of the Court sitting on •Wednesday last, Mr . Barton, S.M., stated That he would be making some alterations in. the: days of.thte sittings, of the Court for the. New Year. Owing to the great amount of work at Wanganui,, tlie present arrangement of gow ing to .Ha we fa every Thursday did not allow tinie enough to finish the sittings at Wabganiii, so lie had decided to make the Hhweia sittings fovtpightly, which would hllbiv for twd full without a break in Wanganui, and thus enable tbfe wotk to be disposed of without interruptions. He would take l Hawera every other Wednesday and Thursday, and the Patea sittings would in future be held on Fridays.
