IN FRENCH ELECTIONS, SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS. ENQUIRY OPENED. oY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT (Received Dec. 18, 11.55 a.m.) . . . PARIS, Dec. 17. A surprising incident marked the opening of the sitting of the commission appointed by the Chamber to enquire into the sources of the party funds employed in the election campaign of last May, with special reference to the extent to which Moscow funds were utilised. The first witness was M. Brilliet : senator for Seine, who is regarded as a political agent for the Union Des Interets Economiques. He refused to take the oath on the ground he would be compelled to give the names of men who bad given him or demanded money, or who had received election funds. Thus he would risk the legal penalties. & The commission, after unavailing pressure, decided to refer the point to the Minister, of Justice, and adjourned. “LET THE TIGER SLEEP.” (Received Dec. 18, 11.30 a.m.) m, PARIS, Dec. 17. ihere was a dramatic scene in the Chamber of Deputies. Malvy made sensational revelations of Government payments to Bonnetrouge. Malvy concluded: I was made responsible for what Cabinet did. The country ought to know- the truth of a frightful drama of which I was the victim. I ask the Unamber to appoint a commission of enquiry.
An interrupter shouted: If Malw becomes the accuser Clemenceau will accused. Let the tiger sleep, for if he Wins to move there will be a clamour throughout the country.
