Mr. Shrimpton, duet telegraph engineer, announces that an order has been placed for a new cable to be laid between the North and South Islands so as to give proper telephonic communication. It will be over a year before the work is- completed, but the system adopted will permit of people in Invercargill to, be heard clearly by people in Auckland. The Tutanekai will be equipped for the purpose of laying a cable, which will land on the beach at Seddon, Marlborough.
