HAWERA’S WATER SUPPLY.

FREE FROM DEAD' CALVES

BUT CONTAINED 37L8 EEL. A recent inspection of the Kapuni stream above the intake, from whence Hawera. derives its water supply, proved more satisfactory from the point of view of the citizens of this tolwn than did a similar inspection last year, when dead calves were found polluting the stream. Although not injurious to the water supply, it is reported, however, that Mr. R’evell, while fishing at mid-day in the Kapuni at the back of his farm on the Palmer Road, caught an eel weighing 371bs, another 131bs and another lOlbs. Some smaller ones were also caught, but none of them weighed less than Gibs.

Other large hauls in different parts of the stream are also reported.
