• WAGES DISPUTE. . (BY TELItGBAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. ; •.I - ’ -. -■ WANGANUI,. Dec. 16. ; Thte .au-mua]' conference of the waterside .Workers’ Federation is now sittmg; here. They considered the recent award for waterside workers as delivered by the Oonrt of Arbitration. Regarding the matters agreed upon, by the* Conciliation Council the delegates considered these were ia. big improvement op-the .last;., award, but when it came. to the question of wages and 9 then matters,, universal dissatisfactibij. with, the award was expressed. The following, resolution was carried: “That 'the. Federation expresses •in most definite terms its disapproval of the basic wage .granted in the. award. We do so- on the grounds that it is a nianifest injustice/ as it does not proyide a . living . wage for waterside Workers in this country. AVe further express our disapproval on the grounds that on the evidence submitted during the hearing of the dispute the waterside workers' were entitled to--a. substantial increase irl iva<res and not the miserable pittance allowed bv the, Court.”
