WIN BY VISITING TEAM
There were very unfavourable weather conditions for tlie big match, between, the representatives of Wellington. and Taranaki, which, took place at New Plymouth on Saturday. This interfered much with the play and Made it very difficult. In spite of this, however, much really excellent term was shown. in the doubles TarOnaki M’en. held their own, but- in the singles they were badly b'eaten, winning only one match. There were several very close results. G. Foden playing three very evenly contested sets and Nicholson (Taranaki) beating Salniontl. pretty decisively. Wellington had >a strong combination in France. Smvtlie. Salmond. Voiing. O’Brien' • and Ellis. while Taranaki was represented by its best six in Wallace, Dickie. Webster. Nicholson. Forleii and (Irant. Wallace and Dickie won two doubles and lost' one. and Webster and Nicholson did the same. Fodeii hiiri Grant were unsuccessful in each 'double, though tbev bad a ding-dong match with O’Brien and ; Ellis. One of the best singles was that between Foden ami O’Brien, both playing capital tennis. The detailed results were as 'below. Wellington being mentioned first ih each ease :
