TO OBTAIN PEACE
BE READY FOR WAR
BRITISH CABINET ’S DECISION,
TO PROCEED WITH SINGAPORE,
While Britain earnestly desires peace, she is under no illusions as to the potentialities of the Pacific as a possible arena for unloosening the dogs of war. New Zealand -and Australia will view with the utmost satisfaction the official declaration that the work at the Singapore base is to begin almost immediately.

LONDON, Dec. 13. Speaking at Oswestry, Mr W. C. Bridgeman (First Lord of the Admiralty) stated that Cabinet had agreed to allow him to start upon the Singapore base.
It was most essential, he said, that if Britain had to rely on its present smaller navy she should have a base where capital ships could be repaired instead of having to come Home to do so, thus wasting time and money.
