N.Z. LABOUR PARTY.
PATE A ELECTORATE ACTIVITIES. An important move in connection with the organisation of the Labour Party in the Patea. electorate was taken some three or four weeks ago, when a meeting of delegates from the Tlawera and Patea branches met in Hawera; and decided- to form a Labour representation committee for the electorate. It was on that occasion decided to write to all the industrial unions in the electorate eligible for affiliation, and. to invite them to affiliate to the newly formed L.R.C. A further meeting was held at Patea on Saturday last at which there were present delegates from the following organisations: Tlawera and Patea branches, of the New Zealand Labour Party, the Amalgamated Society of Oarjventers and o.Jiners (Hawera branch), Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, Waterside Workers (Patea branch) and Freezing Workers’ Federation (Patea branch).' Formal business was transacted, the main item being tbe adoption of a constitution for the L.R.C., the National Executive’s proposed constitution being accepted with"slight modifications to meet the special needs of the local situation.
The main objects of the L.R.C. are to secure the return of nominees of the N.Z. Labour Party at elections for representatives to Parliament and local governing bodies, and to control and extend the propaganda activities of Labour within the electorate of Patea.
It was decided to secure visits 'from one or more Labour M.P.’s early in the New Year if possible and to utilise their services in an endeavour to form new branches of the party in some of the other centres in the electorate. The question of contesting the Patea. seat in the interests of Labour will be gone ino at the next meeting of the L.R'.C.
