SCHOOL SPORTS.
AT HAWERA SHOWGROUNDS. . TAWHITI WINS BANNER. MATAPU THE CUP. Despite consistent rainfall, the South Taranaki primary schools’ championships were carried out . right to die enci at the Showgrounds. The Dixon Banner, which was won last year by the Hawera Main School’s B team was this year Avon by the Tawhiti School, which scored 16 points against the Hawera Main School, team’s 111 points, Hawera Convent being thiid, with 13 points. The Bennett and Sutton Cup, which j was won last year by the Manaia Con- i vent School, and which is only for competition amongst schools of a smaller roll number tnan 150, was won.'by the Matapu School, with 8 points. O’kit'iiiwa gained 10.1 points, but thenroll number was found to he over 150. The Dixon Banner competition was open to all schools, hut schools will) a roll number of over 100 had to divide into two teams. The Bennett and Sutton Cup was open to schools with a roll number of less than 150. Several Hawera business men were present at'the grounds and tieated the children to scrambles for toys, sweets and pea-nuts. The championship points scored by the various teams were:—Tawhiti 16, Hawera Main A, 144 ; Hawera Convent 13; Hawera Main B, 124 5 Okaiawa. 104; Matapu, 8; Manaia Convent, . Pihama, 64; Mokoia, 6; Fraser Road, 5; Otakeho and Manaia State, 4 each; Oliangai and Ararata., 2 each ; Te Roti, 1-4; Mngatoki, 1; Patea Convent, NorImanby, Auroa and Tokaora 0. . Medals for most points were gained by the following: Boys, senior, Boi, Morrissey (Hawera Convent), 7pts; junior, A. Richards (Pihama), 6lpts. Girls, senior, E. Wards (Mokoia), 6pts; junior, P. Toy (Tawhiti) 7pts. In connection with the excellent arrangements made for the sports, special ! credit is due to. Messrs F. A. Quin, J. Winks and Garnett. They put in a ! great deal of time and labour in marking and pieparing the ground for the ! competitions. went smoothly, in spite of the, weather, and to all who took a 1 hand in the running of the sports, ladies and Hawera Technical.
