Commenting upon the inspector’s reports upon the Avork done in the outlying schools in Taranaki at the meeting of the Taranaki Education Board yesterday, Mr A. Lees said that in practically every instance the inspector had commented upon the efficiency of the pupils and the instruction. and this, said Mr Lees, disclosed a very satisfactory state of affairs in the backblocks. As an illustration of the keenness and enthusiasm of the country children to attend. school, he noted that an inspector had mentioned an instance at Mahoenui where three children travelled 16 miles daily—eight miles each way—to attend school. “Very much of the good work that is being done in the backblocks is due to the work and visits of the organising teachers,” said Mr .T.
