WHAREROA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The P. and T. linesmen are at present engaged in constructing a fresh stretch of line connecting Beach road with YY hareroa road. The poles used are quite the roughest I have* ever seen used for the purpose, and the employment of these gnarled and twisted tree trunks demonstrates the scarcity of | suitable timber. Local residents gaz--1 ing on these bossv spars console themselves with the hope that when the bottom of the Manawapou road completely caves in (a contingency that can hardly be -long delayed) wayfarers will be able to hitch car or cart to these hefty uprights, and yank themselve® to safety thereby, v The condition of the" Wharerc*, road (connecting the South road with the | Manawapou road). i ; s such as to require the immediate atte'ntion of the County Council. This piece of road carries very heavy traffic, the -milk supply from the Tawhiti and YYaokina sides converging here for delivery to the factory. The whole, stretch is A r ery rutty, and few care to travel over it" by car in its. present condition. The portion between the railway crossing eastward to. the top of the hill is perhaps the wprst, b.ut it is difficult to differentiate, for “bad is the best.” / Perhaps the county foreman will take note and give prompt attention to a pressing need. .
