LORRY BURNT.

FIRE NEAR INGLEWOOD. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. INGLEWOOD, Dec. iO. A Ley land lorry loaded with benzine was destroyed by fire three miles from Inglewood at 11 a.m. The cause is unkiioAvn. The lorry, which was practically a new one, was owned by the \Vaitara Transport -Co. The .insurance is unknown.

NEW PLYMOUTH. Dec. 10. While proceeding along the Mountain road near Inglewood a lorry with a oad of 160 cases of benzine caught fire, from an unexplained cause and was totally destroyed. Traffic was blocked on the road for an hour or two.

An eye-witness told a Star reporter that the fift occurred about half a mile from Inglewood on the Leppertpn road, it was an awe-inspiring spectacle, suck as our informant had never seen outside picture shows. The driver’s attempt tci extinguish the outbreak was hopeless. When tlie fire had burnt- out there was a tangled mass of wreckage. Fortunately no- one was injured. Traffic on the road was obstructed for nearly two hours. It is pre.sum.ed that the fire was the result of a leaking tin of benzine, the drops from which, falling on the exhaust pipe, formed the gas which caused the igniting c .f the lorry and its load.
