MAN WITH REVOLVER.

DEMAND FOR MONEY

INCIDENT IN AN OFFICE

A sensational hold-up my a man wearing a leather mask occurred in Brisbane on Saturday morning about eleven o’clock at the office of F. Barbatt and Sons’ foundry. Mr. S. Bewsey, a junior clerk, and Miss A. McDowall, typiste, had taken a bag containing over £6OO wages for the works employees into a small office at the rear of the main office, which was unoccupied at the time. „ The’ bag had been just placed on the desk when a gruff voice from the doorway leading from the main office said: “I want some of that.” Both Mr. Bewsey and Miss McDowall turned to see a masked man, who was covering them with a revolver.

Mr. Bewsey, who has only one arm, realising the serious situation, handed the intruder two £1 notes. ‘I want more than that,” said the intruder. “I want the lot.” Mr. Bewsey replied: “Well, I won’t give .it to you; if you want it you had better come and get it.” Again Mr. Bewsey was menaced with the revolver, and the demand repeated, whereupon Mr. Bewsey handfed over four £5 notes. This apparently satisfied the intruder, for he backed out, at the same time cautioning Mr. Bewsey and Miss McDowall to remain where they were. The Ipswich police were immediately notified and later an arrest was made.
