SUMMER FLOWER SHOW flower show organised by the Methodist Church, wlncn is to be held in the Town Hall to-morrow, in the Eltham flown Hall to-morrow, pi onuses to be one of the best shows yet held in Eltham. A large number or entries have been received from the best growers in Eltham- and surrounds> M® o from New Fly mouth YV aitar a, Stratford, Hawera, Oka iaw a! -Kaponga horticulturalists. Competition for the several special trophies is keen. In conjunction with the floiver show the ladies of the church are holding a ‘‘fancy fair,” and-good buynVi® at the various stabs, ihe doors will op*en at 1 p.m.. and Sir Carncross will officially open the show at 2 p.in. 'The show trophies will he presented to the- successful competitors at the opening ceremony by Mr O. J. Hawken, M.P. The tea rooms will be open from 11 a,m. PUBLIC LIBRARY. •^k e library Committee met last mglrt m the Municipal Buildings Present; Mrs D* Syine, Rev. Mr Orange (chairman), Messrs J. H. Sheat (secretary), Bridger and Edwards. The chairman explained that the lastmonthly meeting was not called because there was apparently no business. lhe secretary relid a letter from the department with reference to the Government subsidy, pointing out that as Eltham was a borough with over 1500 people no subsidy could be granted. 'The librarian reported that the membership roll was steadily increasing, and that a considrable number of new books had been put in the library during the month. A number of suggestions on the suggestions book had received attention. The Borough Council wrote stating that the usual grant of £35 subsidy would be given again this year. Accounts amounting to £3 ].ss were passed for payment. The secretary reported that the hank balance was £4B, including the council’s subsidy. SWIMMING CLUB. A ‘general meeting of the members of the Eltham Swimming Club was held last night. Mr A. O. Casey presided. flaranaki Centre and to pay all members’ registration fees. The secretary submitted a draft set of rules for the club, which after discussion were adopted without alteration. It was agreed that the club colours be black and white. Air Shearer, secretary to the Taranaki Swimming Centre, wrote offering to bring a team of swimmers and divers for the club’s first carnival. It was decided £o write to Mr Shearer and thank hipi for his kind offer; also to invite the ’ co-operation of the Hawera and Stratford Clubs and the Eltham School Committee with a carnival to he held on January 14. The secretary reported that a considerable number of season tickets had already been sold.
It was decided to recommend to the School Committee that the hours of attendance be altered to the following: 4 to 5, for ladies only; 5 to 6, mixed; 6 to 7, men only.
