WELLINGTON, Hec. 7. - Early on Saturday heavy rain commenced to laii and continued until midday, necessitating the postponement of all cricket fixtures. The public schools tennis tournament, • which was commenced on Friday, was postponed till next Saturday. Considerable interest was taken in a. naval cutter .race- between crews from H.M'.S. Dunedin' and the Petrine ex-navals. A good race was won by Petone by a .length and■ a half. The following Wellington oarsmen have been nominated for positions in the New Zealand eight for Australia : W. West (Wellington), G. R. Crondiss (Petone), R. N. Wakelin, F. G. Osborne, H. R. Herd, P. Hereford, J. M. F. Johns (Star). The nominations from other centres have not yet come in. The final selection of the crew and extras to make the trip to Australia will be made as soon as possible after the championship regatta on January At Island Ray the Life Saving Club’s opening run out resulted T Maranui 63. Island Bay 57, Lyall Bay 55.
