POLICE ENQUIRY.
RESTRICTED SCOPE. BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Dec. 8, 2.10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 8. Unexpected developments occurred at the Royal Commission enquiring into the circumstances of the police strike when the chairman (Monash) announced that the fresh commission had received an intimation limiting the scope of the enquiry to the general state of efficiency and conditions of the force before the strike, causes that moved the men to refuse duty and the consequences that arose. Matters that had been removed from the scone' of the enquiry are the present state of the force and the necessity, if any, of better police protection throughout Victoria. This is regarded as an intimation from the new Ministry that it wishes the enquiry to end as soon as possible.
