MOVEMENT IN FRANCE

MAYOR LEADS STRIKERS

BY CABLE —BRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT PARIS, Dec. 6. The return of Sadoul and Communist demonstrations in honour of Krassin have intensified the agitation in Press and Parliament against the alleged growth of Communist activities. There has been a remarkable manifestation of this in the Breton fishing port of Douarnenez, where a strike of fish canners was made the occasion of Communist demonstrations, in one of which the Mayor (M. Leflanche) took part, wearing a tricolour scarf. In consequence of this action the prefect has been suspended and will be charged in court with inciting rebellion. The Premier (M. Herriot) told the Communist leader (M. Cochin) that (the Government is determined to fight the Communist peril, suppress demonstrawho meddled in French- foreign politics, who meddled in France foreign politics. M. Herriot’s reply to M. Cochin was made in the course of a debate in the Chamber on the Navy estimates, when the Communists violently attacked the Government. The Chamber eventually refused M. Cochin leave to move an interpellation on the subject of M. Leflanehe’s suspension. It is noteworthy that th© French police are active today rounding up Communist suspects in Paris.
