POTATOES FOR LIVESTOCK.
EFFECTIVE MECHANICAL MASHER.
On every farm where appreciable quantities of potatoes are grown, and where the unmarketable tubers are fed to'live stock, especially pigs, some sort of masher is found to be exceedingly useful. The appliance illustrated above takes the fo v rm of a small spiked-barrel fitted inside a framework with a detachable Wooden hopper. A number of iron spikes, spirally arranged, pass between sets of teeth fixed parallel to them at the bottom of the hopper. One set. of. teeth is pivotally attached, being held in position normally by a balanfce/weight. Should the hopper become choked, <- however, the weight can be instantly lifted, the teeth lowered to clear it. The whole design is very simple, and the machine i s hand operated. The hopper is held on by two rods passing through eyes o n the framework, a'nd can be detached in a moment for cleaning out.
