CLAIMS HEARD IN COURT. Differences arising between employers and sharemilkers are common lit Taranaki, and at the Magistrate's; Court yesterday two disputes were brought for settlement. The first was a claim by a man named S. Withers, against G. W. Gane, of Normanby, for £44, being the, balance of wages allegdly dne. , Mr. P. O’Dea, for plaintiff, submitted evidence to the effect that dJAne advertised - , for sharemilkers to mips: by hand, and Withers applying agreed 'to accept £4 per week. Gane, however, had a man on the farm who was, receiving £2 per week, but he stated that he would pay the man off if Withers brought his son with him, the son to take the man’s place; and Withers senr. to then receive £6 per week. Withers brought his family bn to the farm, expecting to be paid £6 per week, but the other man was kept on and Gane only paid Withers £4 per week. For the defendant, Mr. Spratt said that the contract was with the father and mother of the lad for the services of themselves and family at £4 per week and found, and that there had been a settlement when the -! Withers family left the farm 18 months ago. He had heard nothing further from the family until October, 1924. In addition to the £4 per week he had allowed his employees to take on outside contracts. Th ? r Ma S istr ate gave judgment for the defendant, with .costs. The second case ‘ involved a claim and a counter-claim.-The claim was made by F. Lambert J* Fryer, and . was for the sum of £2B 12s lid, being the balance of a milk cheque due. Fryer admitted the claim, but pressed a,counter-claim for £162, which he stated was th© amount'of his loss occasioned by Lambert’s neglect. Evidence was then produced, but a conclusion was not reached, and the V as e was adjourned until next Thursday.
