WATERSIDERS CONFER.
BASIC BATE INCREASED. (by TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. ' ; WELLINGTON, Dec. 4. The Arbitration Court has increased the basic wage of Dominion waterside workers, from 2s 2d to 2s 2-id per hour. Mr Hiram Hunter dissented, on the ground that regular workers only averaged 32 hours a week,- and the basic rate, should be 2s s|d an hour. The usual preference clause is inserted, with the' addition that provision is made by agreement between the Waterside Workers’ Federation and the Employsis’ Federation as to the limit of meriibership at- any particular port. The number is deemed to be excessive for the carrying oilt of the work. WELCOME AT WANGANUI. (BY TELEGRAPH—PriESS ASSOCIATIONWANGANUI, Dec. 4. At the annual conference of the Dominion Waterside Workers’ Federation, opened tliis morning, delegates represented three unions. The business was of a' preliminary nature. To-morrow morning will be the official welcome by the chairman' of the Harbour Board, also by the local union. The main business of the conference begins subsequently.
