BANNER MATCH. HAWERA A v, PATEA. Four rinks fi'om the Patea Club journeyed to Haw-'ra on "Wednesday afternoon to play the above fixture ■with the Haw era A team (Wednesday players). In welcoming the visitors the president (Mr S. Adamson) expressed the hope that all would have a most enjoyable game. He said the Hawera bowlers always appreciated ■ a visit from the Patea Club, and as the weather conditions were ideal for bowling he had no doubt a pleasant game would result. At the conclusion of the game Mr Christiansen, on behalf of the Patea players, said he wished to thank the Hawera Club for the splendid game they had been treated to during the afternoon. Patea bowlers always know that when they visit the Hawera Club they . will get a good game, and they are yet to be disappointed. He said the green was good and was a treat to play on, and lie was convinced all had thoroughly enjoyed the. day out. He would also like’ to tender their thanks to the ladies who had so ably provided afternoon tea for them, and would call upon all bowlers to give them three hearty cheers, which was responded to in no uncertain sound. The game was a very evenly .contested one, and at iio Stage was there a great, difference in the points scored, each club varying in the highest aggregate right through the game. HAWERA AND PARK. On Saturday Waverley will visit Hawera with five rinks, playing Hawera Club in the morning and Park in the afternoon. The visitors will be entertained at lunch by the local clubs. In a Perns match on Park green yesI terday afternoon (the' first, in fact, that has been played this season), the holders (Crompton, Catran, MePhillips and Quin) retained the trophy after a very close contest with Petheriek, McCormick, Curtis and Brunette. On the' last head the score stood 18-17 in favour of the challengers, who were lying one up with the holder’s last bowl to go. Quin drove and secured four as ; the result, the game ending 21-18; AUROA V. OPUNAKE A. (From Our Own Correspondent). The above banner match was played at Opunake on Saturday. Rain fell shortly after commencing play,. and continued until half way through the match. The home team wore successful m winning by 17 points.
