NATIONAL BANK.

TENDERS CALLED FOR NEW' BUILDING. In to-day’s issue the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd, is inviting tenders for the erection in reinforced concrete of new offices for the Hawera branch.

The new building will be erected on the vacant (section having a frontage of . 41 feet to Princes Street and 66 feet to High Street. The building which is about 30 feet in height is of one storey and basement. Externally the building is finished in the Greek lonic style of architecture. The Princes street front will be very handsome, the main entrance doors being in the centre between two fluted columns each eighteen feet in height. At the end of the High street frontage will be an entrance for offices which are planned at the back of the banking portion. The building will be of sufficient strength to carry another floor of offices which will be erected as soon as there is a demand. The banking chamber, which will be approached through a vestibule and plate glass doors, will be a commodious room twenty feet in height. On the right, just inside the vestibule doors, will be the'manager’s room, and behind that the accountant’s space, while on the left are situated two tellers’ counters. At the end facing the main entrance will he the ledgers. All the screens and Avnodwork in the banking chamber Anil be of fine grained oak. A book lift and stairs from the banking chamber gric access to the basement, in Avhioli will be situated the heating chamber, and strongroom, an island structure Avith corridor all round. The architect is Mr. O. H. Mitchell, A.R.1.8.A.. of the firm of Messrs. Atkins. and Mitchell, of Wellington, the Bank’s architects. The fenders close on 90th instant in Wellington, and building operation* should commence early in the New Year.
