SEQUEL TO JOY RIDE.

MOTOR-CAR ON FIRE. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. A somewhat unusual case of a motorcar being partially destroyed by fire resulted in a coroner’s inquiry into the circumstances. The finding was that the car, which belonged to the A.B.C. Motors, was damaged by fire in the Kaiwarra Gorged on September 9, w'hile being driven by William Stewart Reid without the authority of his employers.

The Magistrate said the theory put forward by the police was that, having already had one accident with the car the same evening, Reid may have wanted to destroy the evidence of this by setting fire to it and putting it over the gorge, hut there was no tangible evidence to justify his finding that the fire was intentionally caused.
