ALLEGED GRAFT.
ALDERMEN INVOLVED. REGRADING A ROAD. BY CABLE—PRES? ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Dec. 2. The Oropley commission is investigating a new alleged graft charge. It was alleged that in order to bring a road outside the Country Producers Selling Compajiy’s premises, which was recently re-built, to the level of a new building the road would have to be regraded in order to facilitate the reception of wool and produce. The proposal was rejected by the council, and then Parnham (manager of the company) alleged that when he expressed surprise to Alderman Burke at the decision, the latter said that he (Burke) and three aldermen (his followers) could reverse the decision, but “the job would-cost four fifties,” the company to pay £IOO at the start of the work and £IOO at its completion. After consultation with the city surveyor the company's proposal was turned down and the difficulty was overcome by another scheme, which was carried out.
