Heavy rain fell just before the sixth, race, and the horses had to be brought back to the paddock, proceedings being held up for about half an hour. The course was very heavy after the rain. The totalizator handled £51,617, compared with £41,923 on the opening day last year. Results: Melrose Handicap, 7, furlongs..—Riim the Bell (C. Reed) 1, Zanna 2, Monday 3. Alsd started: Passionate, Bdvis. Princess Ronhie, Herculean, Kiki, Iriiporter, Auburn, Makora, Best Boy, Torch, Rbyal Form, Larrikin, Rosinante, Te Momanui, Thurnrosae, Turn, Golden Sovereign. Won by a length and threequartefs, a neck- between second and third. Time,, 1.30 2-5. Bevis.was fourth. Passionate, Herculean and Gold Sovereign fell. Illumination took command at the five furlongs post. In the run down the straight Polonett came with a strong challenge to Illumination, and got up in the last stride to make a dead heat of it. NOTES ON THE RACING. (By Telegraph from Maecenas.) WANGANUI, Nov. 29. The spring meeting of the Feilding Jockey Club was opened to-day in warm weather, but'subsequently the weather changed to showery conditions. Ihe attendance was large and speculation brisk, showing an ■ increase of £2329. Proceedings opened with the Waituna Hardies, for which Crown Coin, Miss Mickey and Puwliero were evenly supported. The last-named took the lead after going a short distance, and leading for the rest of the journey won well from Miss Mickey, on whom Bowdun did not give his usual good display. Crown Coin and Equitable were next to finish, and they, too, were not well handled. Of a big field in the Aorangi Trial, Beaumont (£525) was a big favourite from Wee Marble, Miss Odille and Enthuse. As usual, _ Miss Odille began smartly, and, leading all the way, won easily from Newbury King, Beaumont and Cooinda. The last-named finished fast. Diamond Ring (£770), Merry Singer (£440), Tanadees (£420), and Avola (£415) each had strong support for the Cup. Gaze was the early leader, hut going out of the straight Mount Marta took charge from Gaze, Avola, Black Cruiser and Diaiiiond Ring. At the hoiiie turn there was little alteration of the leaders, but over tile last furlong. Avola put in a fine fun, and, well ridden by L. Pine, won like a good one. Mount Marta just heat Gaze. Matin Bell, who had the services of A. Reed, was a good favourite for the Kowliai AVelter, with Shining Armour and Glengariff also well hacked. Lady Gay was first out, but Pronto soon took charge, and led Matin Bell, lulette and Glengariff along the hack. Pronto still had charge entering the straight, but over the last 'half furlong Matin Bell came along with a great run to win easily, Glengariff *and Sansalino with good late efforts finishing second and third. Deliige with almost 1400 tickets was a pronounced favourite for the Flying, while of the other runners Lady Bentinck and Santonio claimed most support. Lady Bentinck was first out, but Deluge soon went to the front, and at the home turn looked a winner, but over the last part of the journey tired ladly, and in a great finish Snatcher with a great riin just heat Lady Bentinck, with Koodoo and Delude close up, Tamatete was made a big favourite tor the Stakes, and never gave his suppoi ters any anxiety, for jumping ont quickly lie led all the way to win easily. Roburite was a big favourite for the .jrttzroy Hack, hut after being in behind Starshell and Troilus till the home turn she “petered out,” the winner turning up in Piquant, who came with a good run to iust heat Kehutai and Wilderness, which pair 'ilso raced well, 1 L’Amour, Quiescent and Martulla wei-e hacked as named for the Kiwirfa, Belter, hiit all failed, although .Juieseent was unlucky. Jumping out veU Glenross led all the wav, to' hold afi the fast finishing Battle Knight and Quiescent.

Donnelly, the judges appointed by the Racing Conference, dismissed the appeals lodged by u J Oll6B ail J M. AlcCarten against their disqualification bv the Australian Jockey Club. Such a ■our.se is consistent with and is required by the existence of separate reciprocal agreements for the cnforcemnt of judgments and disqualifications made between the turf authorities in England and the New Zealand Raciu<> r Conference and the Australian Jockey Club respectively.” The judgment concludes: “AA'e desire to make it clear that we ourselves have '■ome to no conclusion upon the merits of the disqualifications imposed by the New South AYales racing tribunals. In any case we have not had lief ore us the materials to enable us to do so.
