REVENGE IS SWEET.
FRENCHMAN AND GERMAN
PRISON CAMP SCORE SETTLED
LONDON, Nov. 12. A story is being told in the Paris newspapers of an ex-soldier who suffered bitterly from German brutalities whilea. prisoner of war. The former soldier was loading a truck of potatoes in Brittany, and nearby was a German vegetable merchant, who was taking delivery of a consignment of farm produce for Germany. The Breton peasant scrutinised the Boche, and then asked, ‘‘Are you OberLieuieriant K’raetch, who was in command of a prisoners’- camp?” The German, delighted to meet someone who recognised his army rank, smiled and replied in the affirmative. “Well.” retorted the Breton, “I was a soldier in your camp, and have long wanted to have a word with you. Without further parley, he fell' upon the German, first with a carter’s whip, then with his fists, and finally w-th kicks.
If other Bretons had not rescued Ober-Lieuenant Kraetch he probably would have been killed.
