HOW BELTS ARE LACED.

The heed often arises on the modern farm to fasten the erds of belts together, and aLo other materials, 'including canvas. There is a right and a wrong way, to'this, but there are many people who certainly do not understand the former. For the benefit of readei-3 the following sketches from the Michigan.-Farmer are reproduced.

Sketch No. 1 shows front and back of a 6-ineh belt laced. The right side of sketch shows the part which lies against the pulley. The lacing is double on that si.de. The lacing starts at the centre, and ends at the centre, where both lojse ends are tucked through the belt. A belt punch is needed, of course..and one can be made in the farm shop- A grod quality of thong is needed for lace; poor lacing materials are costly. The same is true of belts. Get the bes; quality. Set the holes for lacing far enough from the ends of the belting pieces so that they will not tear out. Say an inch for the short lace and two inches for the long lace, on a six-h cli belt. On heavier belts, c Lich aic seldom used on farms, the distance will be greater.

Sketch Nc. 3 shows lacing for a two-inch belt the upper one showing the side that es against the pulley. In all three sketches the pulley side of the belt has single strands of lam.
