OKAIAWA FLOWER SHOW.

A BEAUTIFUL DISPLAY

RECORD ENTRIES,

The annual Presbyterian Flower Show, held on Wednesday last, added another 'to the list of successes achieved by the committee in previous years, in fact, so far as the display of blooms of exquisite quality was concerned, it was a good deal ahead of any preceding show. A record number of entries were received, and although a large marquee added to the space of former years, it was still inadequate, and in consequence many of the exhibits were overcrowded. The main hall, wherein all the cut blooms were staged, presented a gorgeous spectacle, the rose and sweet pea classes perhaps being the most i conspicuous. Unfortunately the weather was not all that could be desired. Very heavy showers fell during the evening, which no doubt affected the attendance to a certain extent. Nevertheless the attendance was very good, and all those who braved the elements were quite satisfied that it was well worth while. The judges all expressed themselves as exceedingly pleased with the keen competition ruling in the various classes, and were greatly impressed with both the quality and quantity of the entries, which they considered reflected much credit on the exhibitors. The joint hon. secretaries, Miss G. Lees and Mr T. Innes, associated with whom was Mr A, Lees in the general organisation of the show, and the capable officials who worked with them, are to be congratulated on the progress and marked success achieved. A sewing stall and sweet stall did good business, while in the evening the hoop-la and the shooting gallery were well patronised. During the afternoon proceedings were enlivened by a number of selection by the Holly Bank Orchestra, while in the evening a short but excellent musical programme was given. Items were given by Miss Mills, Mrs Robb and Mr Lester, of Hawera, and Rev. J. D. Smith, of Manaia, each item being much appreciated. The accompaniments "were tastefully played by Mesdames Lester Tarrant. For the arrangement of the programme thanks are due to Mrs E. G. and Miss Betts, of “Holly Bank. 5 ’ ‘ PRIZE LIST. The points prize of china jardiniere presented by Messrs Blair and Sellar, to be awarded to the home securing the most points over all classes was won by Mrs T. Fever (Hunter road, Eltliam) with 55 points, Mrs T. Allan (Okaiawa) being second with 52 points. In the rose section the cup presented as points prize by Messrs B*ennett and Sutton was won outright by Mi6s R. Mills (Tokaora). - This being the second successive year in which Miss Mills has secured the coveted trophy it now becomes her own property. The general awards were as follow: ROSE SECTION.
