OPERA HOUSE. “SAFETY-LAST.” SEASON EXTENDED, The peals of daughter which: have been heard floating across High Street from the Opera House during the last two evenings axe proof of the laughraising qualities of Harold Lloyd in “Safety Last,’’. The success has been so great that the management have decided to extend the season for two more nights. The star to-night will be supported' by Richard Barthelmess in one of the most delightful modern stories that has been brought to the screen for a decade. That is the ‘ ‘piece de resistance” that the Opera House has the good fortune to offer its patrons to-night and to-morrow (Saturday). As a; 19-year-old youth, who leaves home to hide hjs identity in New York until he becomes of age, so that be may defeat the plans of rich parents to prevent his marriage to a poor girl, Barthelmess is cast in a role admirably suited to his talents, and again distinguishes himself. Patrdns are advised to book their’ seats at Everybody’s Sweet Store, ’phone 639. GRAND THEATRE—TO-NIGHT. “DARK STAIRWAYS.” “Dark Stairways,’’ Universal picture starring Herbert, Rawlinson, will be shown in the Grand Theatre, commencing to-night. “Dark Stairways’’’ was written by Marion Orth, and is the etouy of a society crook who encompassed the .conviction of :a ' felony charge of. a\man who considered, the crook his friend. / Through the assistance of a fellow convict the man escapes. In this effort the escaped man feels called upon to do some porch' climbing that l ma y visit several of the women whom he had known before his disgrace. Incidentally he has a love problem to solve, and lie succeeds through the window route! The devious course of the trail he is following leads him into the haunts of professed criminals. There are several fights, a raid by police, and a flight over roof . tops, accompanied by, much indiscriminate shooting. That the supporting cast is a strong one in “Dark-Stairways” is indicated by the names. of those elect-, ed to portray the varioiis character roles—Hayden Stevenson, Robert E Homans, Walter Perry, Tom McGuire and Emmett King; An entertaining supporting programme includes two excellent comedies.
