CONSPIRATORS EVIDENCE. A VISIT TO INDIA. PIQUANT DETAILS. [Further cabled details are to hand of the case in which an Eastern potentate, an indiscreet wife, an aggrieved husband, and several conspirators are concerned. The latest evidence of the con- . spirator Newton indicates that the husband of the woman concerned scoffed at an offer of £20,000 as compensation for his injured feelings, but subsequently accepted £25,000.] BY CABLE—PRE&o ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Nov. 28, 8.55 a.m.)' LONDON, Nov. 27. lii the bank case Newton gave evidence that Robinson scoffed at the offer of £20,000. He subsequently accepted an offer of £25,000, which he divided amongst the Robinsons, Hobbs’ aide-de-camp and Newton. Each got £4OOO except the aide-de-camp, who received £SOOO. Robinson was then under the impression that was all the money there was to divide. Witness and Hobbs afterwards went to Paris, where the £120,000 balance of the cheque was equally divided between Hobbs’ aide-de-camp and Newton. Witness denied seducing Mrs Robinson and robbing her of £10,000; also that he lived by blackmailing. He admitted that he was sentenced inr 1906 to 20 months’ imprisonment; He added that he was rather sorry for the part he had played in the business. He went to India to see if he could obtain a second _ payment on a second Undated cheque which “Mister A” gave. He saw the aide-de-camp, who said that it would be two or three months before “Mister A” would be approachable °wing to, the death •of his wife. He denied that he had ever blackmailed the aide-de-camp. The latter appeared certain that the second cheque would be paid, and paid Newton 600,000 francs for his share. He did not think that it was up to him to return this money because the cheque had not been met.—Reuter.
