(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Nov. 26. The weather did not smile its brightest when the Governor-General departed by the Tahiti this afternoon, the sky hein? overcast and the atmosphere heavy and warm. The public farewell was enthusiastic and spontaneous, and the children played a special part in the farewell demonstrations. Their Excelnecies left Government House at about neon by motor, and, accompanied by an escort of the 6th Manawatu-Mounted Rifles, of which his Excellency is .honorary colonel, proceeded through the main streets of the city to the King’s. Wharf, where they arrived at about 12.30 p.m. His. Excellency then, inspected a guard of honour or the. Wellington. College Cadets, and after .farewells, in the Harbour Bpajid building,, the party boarded .the Tahiti., a salute being fired as they did so. As'the vessel moved down the, harbour- she was preceded by H.M.S. Veronica, end Dunedin, on hoard of which were naval, officers .and Ministers of the Crown*. The warships. accompanied the. steamer,to the threemile limit. _in Cook .Strait, where Viscount Jelficce’s jurisdiction as Gover-nor-General ceased; and !. lie was thenfinally farewoll by, a salute of 19 guns, fired from H M.S.. Dunedin. As the warships turned about the crews, lined the decks and' lustily cheered their Excellencies on their, way. The stilts were but thinly lined, as. the entourage drove through the city, but the main corners and principal business centres were, thronged with people; wlio said gohd-hye to the popular Governor-General arid his lady in no uncertain manner. The : children; lined the shore along Oriental Bay, arid cheered the Tahiti as she drew out’ into Jhe harbour and made 1 towards the Hoads.
