COLLAPSE OF WHARF.
THE AUCKLAND ACCIDENT. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Nov. 25. tlie inquiry into the collapse of the \\ estern wharf, evidence was given by Arthur Brebner, master of the harbour board dredge, as to the dredging ot trenches. Mr Williams said he knew how impossible it was to dredge a series of steps or benches, as one would draw them on paper. In reply to Mr F. W. Furkert (one of the commissioners), witness said the conditions toward Western wharf were very erratic. Cecil V indsor, who took probings, said the bottom generally became harder as depth increased. Several soft patches were found, but nothing sufficiently startling to cause them to make a special report to the engineer. John Loch, a pile driver, said no soft places were found. The inquiry was adjourned.
