—♦ NEW CONFIDENCE TRICK. . ADELAIDE, Nov. 1. A new variety of confidence trick, as far as Adelaide is concerned, was tried in the city this week. By means of it a well-dressed stranger disposed of a gilt watch, said to be worth 9s 6d, for Having just purchased th e watch at a fancy goods shop, the confidence man accosted his victim, and in the course of conversation regretted his extravagance in buying a watch, which left him short of money to get away to his home m the country. He offered to sell the watch for £lO. At this stage a confederate appeared, and tried to f 1 P al OUt of sellin S a £4O watch roi £lO, but the confidence man said that as a man of honor he could not go back on his word. He left th e victim to decide whether to take the watch 01 a' r P^ ie victim took it, and the confidence man took the money The ponce are now looking fo r him.
