ELTHAM SCOUT ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A special meeting of the Eltham Boy Scouts and Girl Guides Committee was held in the C.E.M.S. rooms last evening. Those present were: Mr Ira J. Bridger (president) presiding, Sir Walter Carncross, Mr A. A. Stewart, Rev. Mr Goldthorpe, Mr 11. Harrison (secretary), Mrs Foord (captain of the Guides), and Scout J. Rogers. Apologies were received from Mrs D. Syme, Mr G. AA\ Tayler, and Mr D. Clement (scoutmaster). Mrs Foord reported that Miss M. Urry had been appointed lieutenant of the local Guides, and that generally the troop were in good form and taking a keen interest in their work. Every encouragement was being given to the girls regarding the introduction of games and amusements. A tennis club had been formed within the movement. They had secured the court at the park to play on. The girls contemplated a camping expedition at Dawson Falls during Christmas. The matter of providing sports material was left with the chairman and the troop officials. Mr D. Clement (scoutmaster) reported that the work among the boys was very satisfactory. He had arranged a series of competitions, and great interest was being manifested by the various patrols. A cricket club had been formed, and had already secured the material for the game. He recommended that, as Scout Rogers had just returned from England, where he had been as one of the representatives from New Zealand, and had learned a great deal about scouting, he appointed scoutmaster and that he (Mr Clement) be appointed as a member of the committee. The committee accepted the resignation of Scoutmaster Clement with’regret, and placed on record their deep appre 'iation of the valuable work rendered by him. Mr Rogers was then appointed scoutmaster. and the chairman, in welcoming him to the movement referred to the pleasure it gave the committee to leahse that one of the local troop should have been accented to represent New Zealand in England at the exhioitaon. The local troop would be in safe hands with one who had had such a great experience and had gained so much knowledge of the movement, and on behalf of the committee he welcomed him back and had pleasure in accepting hjm for the position of. scoutmaster. It was decided that the annual sports meeting lie held some time in February, and that the details be left with the chairman and the troop officials to arrange. The chairman reported that he had applied for a pictur ebenefit entertainment for the combined troops, and the Borough Council Committee*had granted the application on the usual terms. Accounts amounting to £lO were passed for payment.
