The trouble between the Commonwealth Shipping Line and the Stewards and Pantrymen’s Union, which was referred to the court, was heard by Justice Power§, who said he thought the Commonwealth Line should have prosecuted the men and given them a chance to defend themselves. The men were given good discharges, and he could not order the union to provide men when the services of those dismissed were refused. MELBOURNE, Nov. 24. Mr. Justice Powers in the Arbitration Court heard the parties to the waterside dispute. He asked them to suspend further action and agree to observe 'the present laward, pending coming, to court next month for a new award. Both sides were -adamant, the representative .of the Peninsular Company stating that he would not concede anything concerning preference in Sydney. Mr. 'Justice Powers then said he Would not make any order, as both the parties were at fault and had broken the award.
