MAN FOUND DEAD.
DISCOVERY IN RAILWAY AVHARE. v In a .whare on the railway line north, of the Etham railway station Charles Lobb,. a single man, aged 38 years; was found dead in his bunk at 9 a.m. on Sunday, the Argus reports. He had been in ill health for a long time. The deceased, who was a surfaceman, was seen alive in Bridge Street on Saturday night. At 9 a.m. on Sunday a mate, Ernest William Hopkins, another surfaceman, went to visit Lobb. The door was locked, from the inside, and as Air.. Hopkins could not arouse attention he entered the whare and found the man dead in bed- He had been dead'for some time. > Hr-.- Cooper and Constable F. H; r Townsend were immediately summoned,’ but the doctor" could only pronounce’ life extinct. Indications were that the man had died in his sleep, i About twelve months ago the late Air. Lobb, who was employed at the Stratford end:; of the railway line, was attended by Dr. Cooper for rheumatic gout. At the time of his death he was doing only light duties fox* the Depart-?* ment, as it was understood that he \ was shortly to be pensioned off as physically unfit. Only a'fortnight ago the deceased was examined by the Rail- * way Depai-tment’s doctor in Wellington,, and it was on his advice that the surfaceman was placed on light duties, pending a final decision as .to ’ his capacity for hard work. Deceased jhad . been employed as a surfaceman for: the last ten years. Deceased’s stepmother, Airs. Lobb, ' lives in New Plymouth The Coroner (Mr. A. AT. Alowlem, b.M.) has decided that no inquest will be necessary.
