MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) SALE OF WORK. On Wednesday afternoon and evening a sale of work in aid of St. Guthbert?s Church, Manaia, will be held in the Manaia Town Hall. The various committees have been working very hard for some considerable time and have now a splendid variety of goods for the various stalls, which include fancy, plain, produce, sweets, apron and bag stalls. There will also be various competitions got off during the afternoon and evening, including many amusing competitions, which will be well worth seeing. The children will be welT catered for with bran tub and fish pond and other attractions. A very nice vocal and musical programme will be submitted at the evening performance, including orchestral items. No doubt this year’s annual sale of work will eclipse all previous 'efforts. The public will b© well catered for, and given good weather a large attendance is assured. FAREWELL TO MR. HUNGER. A jolly little party was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Friday night, when the friends of Mr. Hugh Hunger met to bid him farewell. The time was spent in games and dancing. Miss C. Vine, in a very pleasing voice, sang “I passed by your window” and received an encore. Mr. Forrester also rendered a song and a monologue. Mr. Forrester, on behalf of those present, presented Mr. Hunger with a silver shaving mug and brush. A dainty supper was served by the staffs of the local banks. The singing of “For he’s a iolly good fellow” and “Auld lang syne” brought the gathering to a close at midnight. Mr. Hugh Hunger, who is very popular in Manaia, has been on the staff of th© Bank of New Zealand for the last four years and has been transferred to Christchurch. His many friends wish him every success in his new sphere. Mr. Hunger, in acknowledging the good wishes and handsome present, said it would act as a souvenir and remind him of his many friends at Manaia ami of the splendid evening given by them.
